I’m Johnathan Hettinger, a journalist based in Livingston, Montana, just north of Yellowstone National Park.
I write about the environment, from agriculture to mining, monarch butterflies to grizzly bears, for the Livingston Enterprise and the Midwest Center for Investigative Reporting.
Before this, I worked for about a year-and-a-half at The News-Gazette, where I was a reporter focusing on the Champaign and Urbana city governments and the University of Illinois. I covered everything from deaths in the local jail and police misconduct to the resignation of top UI officials and investigations into the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics.
I graduated from the University of Illinois in May 2015, where I served as Editor-in-Chief of The Daily Illini. I also spent a summer working at the Chicago Tribune as a Dow Jones Sports Copy Editing Intern.
